I am an artist.  I'm not a blog writer and yet here is my blog.  I'm not a sales person and yet I'm telling you which store you can find my art and which art fair I'll be at next.  Even after a year this is still a little foreign to me.  I simply want to make a living at what my passion is and yet it's not that simple.

I do this not for the amount of Facebook Page 'likes' I have nor the stats on my website... I do this because of the one email I may get that tells me how much one of my paintings gives them a peaceful feeling.  I am simply grateful and trust that everything else will fall into place.  Ignorance or faith?  I think it's trusting in your passion and following your true calling.

I am so excited to have my paintings, full size and 8x10 prints, prints on wood, note cards... available in-store for the first time!  LimeLight Emporium at Northville Square agreed to show and sell my work in their store!  I'm so excited.  From now through October 2012 customers have the opportunity to see and then purchase my work.  Websites are great to show your work but it's so nice to see items in person.

The Detroit Artists Market is celebrating their 80th anniversary and this August will host a special event which highlights a selection of Detroit's best artists with the 80Bucks Benefit.  Find out more here.

Since 1932, DAM has supported local artists by providing a welcoming place to show and sell work, and also building audiences and collectors.

I donated a painting for this benefit and while I was there I snapped a few pictures of what was currently in the space.

Another artist who showed at the Plymouth Art Fair was Karrie Evenson.  I absolutely love the color in each of her pieces.

"I am a professional artist from Northwest Arkansas living in the hills of the Ozark Mountains.  As an emotional painter, it’s important that I try to convey everyday experiences to tell a story with paint, brush and canvas."

Another artist who was at Plymouth Art Fair was Kim Rhoney.  I wish I had gotten the opportunity to see her work as well.

"In my final assessment of each piece, it’s always the energy of the color that determines when I feel the work is complete."

I have always loved walking around art fairs and craft shows.  This year since I was showing at the Plymouth Art Fair I didn't have the opportunity to walk around that much.  I did come across Denise's booth in passing and was drawn in.  See more of Denise's paintings at Internal Bloom.

"I have found great passion in painting bold, vibrant flowers. For me, flowers have always induced feelings of joy, peace and warmth. These feelings are what I try to convey in my paintings. In painting these flowers, I feel as though I have bloomed internally as a person, a mother, a friend and an artist."

This past weekend marked a big event for me.  Without knowing what to expect I sent in my application for Art in the Park, after deadline, and was accepted.  It is expensive for a first show but I wanted to do it.  Thursday night my husband and I had worked all day, came home and ate dinner with the kids, packed the van, dropped the kids off at my in-laws and went to set up.  We finished around 11:30pm.  So tired...
Here are a few shots the following morning when we got everything in place.
It was so hot.  That's me in the middle of my work!
I think overall I did pretty well although I have nothing to compare it to.  What an experience!  My husband was such a help.  Here I was thinking I could do all of this by myself and I was so wrong.
Great shot with the rays of sun.  This was what felt like my home for 3 days.
Just as it went up, it all came down Sunday evening and boy were we exhausted.

Yellena James is an artist/illustrator residing in beautiful Portland, OR.
"My work has been described as "colorful arrangements of organic shapes and tangled lines (which) are at once floral and alien, organic and sci-fi, crafty and fantastic." Within each piece I try to create an intimate world that posesses its own ethos and its own emotional range."

Sometimes I think it's chance that we meet people (whether it be while we're out and about or via blogs on the internet) and other times I fully believe there's a reason for the people we meet.

Anna and I have exchanged a few emails after I came across her work and it's been so nice.  Her work is beautiful, vibrant, and inspiring.
